Great spots to picnic on the Northshore Spread a blanket in one of our lovely parks
It doesn’t have to be a holiday to have a picnic. Celebrate the great outdoors any time the weather’s nice. Pack a basket (or just pick up poboys and cold drinks) and set out to explore one of the Northshore’s pretty picnic spots. You’ll find plenty of shade as well as picnic tables and lovely scenery at St. Tammany Parish’s two state parks – Fontainebleau, off Highway 190 in Mandeville, and Fairview-Riverside on Highway 22 in Madisonville. Other picnic sites include Bogue Falaya Park in downtown Covington, and Heritage Park and John Slidell Park, both in Slidell.

| New Fontainebleau cabins prove popular Visitors love cabins built on the lake
Fontainebleau State Park, on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain in Mandeville, debuted its 10 new vacation cabins in late spring and already bookings extend well into next year. The lovely cabins rent for $90 a night and sleep up to 8 people, with two bedrooms, full baths, living room, kitchen/dining area and a lakeside porch. The cabins are built out over the water, providing sea breezes and a view of the Pontchartrain. Fontainebleau also features camping areas, a walking trail, the ruins of a 19th-century sugar mill and is minutes away from restaurants and shopping in Old Mandeville.
